The house my loves and I live in is a work-in-progress. It satisfies our needs, and is the perfect size for a couple. There’s even a backyard for Buster to run around and rule his nation.
One of my goals is to fix up the place, and this is is the perfect space to share all that’s happening. Stick with me to see before-after photos, house tour videos, and budget matters. You could even subscribe for updates.
Here is a list of things we plan to tackle this year on the house:
- Renovating the bathroom. Right now the subfloor is rotting, and the toilet is beginning to sink into the cellar space. Not good, folks. So, we are going to completely gut the bathroom, tear out the existing closet, and expand the bathroom a little bit. This will allow for better access to the bathroom through the main house, verses the current situation of having to walk through the master bedroom. What an awkward setup!
- Removing the concrete eyesore. The house was built in the early 20th century, so it’s old. There used to be a separate garage in the back yard, but it was torn down at some point. But they left the foundation and concrete slab for a “patio” space. Niiiice. Very classy. Needless to say, the concrete isn’t looking too good lately. It has been taken over by massive weeds, and the concrete is broken in several places. Not to mention the hassle of mowing around all the stuff. So, we’re renting a jackhammer and hauling the eyesore away!
- Tiling the kitchen floor. I had this genius idea just before we moved to put carpet tiles in the kitchen. Then, we rented out our house for two years to some boys that never cleaned and liked to party. Wow, smart one Amanda. It’s ruined now. So, while I walk around my own house in flip flops all the time because the floor is so nasty, we are planning on tiling the floor. Stain-free floor here we come!
- Adding open shelving to the kitchen. The cabinets we have now are the poorest quality, and they don’t hold much. I also hate how they look, so heavy above the counter-top. We are going to tear those space suckers out and put in open shelving to give the kitchen a lighter feel. I’m excited.
- Taking back control of our yard. There is so many things growing, at an alarming rate, that we have to do something before the plants take over! Ive tried doing it the passive, chemical-free way, but these bushes and ivy aren’t budging. It’s getting serious, as there is now a plethora of poison ivy growing, and my husband is really allergic. This is the time to break out the chemicals. As much as I’m against them, there comes a time and place for chemicals, and this is one of them.
